May 8 – Green SWoRD’s next Quarterly meeting. The Green School Waste Reduction and Diversion Working Group is an ongoing collaboration of municipalities and volunteers that are invested in school waste reduction and diversion. Members meet virtually in October, February, May and once over the summer with other municipal officials and volunteers to review topics, share experience, and learn from peers while working on the funding, marketing, implementation, and management of school waste reduction programs. May 10 – 2024 MA Envirothon team registrations due.

May 20 – In recognition of the pivotal role that youth can play in addressing challenges bees and other pollinators are facing, World Bee Day 2024 focuses on the theme “Bee engaged with Youth.” This theme highlights the importance of involving young people in beekeeping and pollinator conservation efforts, recognizing them as the future stewards of our environment.

May 23 – The 37th annual MA Envirothon will be held at the Wachusett Reservoir. Find more details about the event here.

May 29 – Webinar at 1:00 pm: Making the Honor Role with K-12 Waste Reduction. Register here. With case study presentations from three communities, this webinar will focus on waste reduction at K-12 schools by spotlighting student engagement and education as well as food-related prevention and recovery initiatives. In addition, two speakers will share how county governments are working to support and coordinate waste reduction efforts within schools.

June 13 – Submission deadline for the 2023 Bow Seat Ocean Awareness Contest: Climate Heroes in Action. Students ages 11-18 are invited to submit a piece of original artwork or example of creative communication focusing on this year’s theme, “The Funny Thing About Climate Change”.

June 15 – Green Team registration for the 2023-2024 school year officially closed.

July 1 –Green Team registration for the 2024-2025 school year officially open!
