With the support and guidance of The Green Team, this school has launched a transformative program that is reshaping how they manage lunchroom waste. The results speak for themselves!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"background-color:#d5e0ac;color:#32373c\" class=\"wp-block-genesis-blocks-gb-testimonial left-aligned gb-font-size-18 gb-block-testimonial\"><div class=\"gb-testimonial-text\">&#8221; We\u2019ve reduced our lunchroom trash by 70% since switching to reusable trays. From 12 bags to just 3-4 bags a day, we&#8217;re no longer using Styrofoam trays or sending food waste to landfills. The participation has been incredible, and it\u2019s been a huge step toward a more sustainable school. <strong>Go Falcons!<\/strong> &#8220;<\/div><div class=\"gb-testimonial-info\"><h2 class=\"gb-testimonial-name\" style=\"color:#32373c\">Shona Vitelli<\/h2><small class=\"gb-testimonial-title\" style=\"color:#32373c\">Green Team Leader.<\/small><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Transforming the Lunchroom<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The transformation began when the school introduced reusable trays for all lunches. Immediately, students sorted their food waste from their trash and recycling and brought their trays to the dishroom for cleaning and sanitizing. This simple change has had an outstanding impact, resulting in a <strong>70% reduction in the amount of trash sent to the landfill.<\/strong> Previously, the school produced 12 bags of trash during lunch; now they are down to just 3-4 bags per day!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/thegreenteam.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Mashpee-students-sorting-station-system-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"Mashpee students sorting station system\" class=\"wp-image-8452\" style=\"aspect-ratio:4\/3;object-fit:cover\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thegreenteam.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Mashpee-students-sorting-station-system-rotated.jpg 480w, https:\/\/thegreenteam.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Mashpee-students-sorting-station-system-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/thegreenteam.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Mashpee-students-sorting-station-system-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Impressive Waste Reduction Numbers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>o put this into perspective, the school used to generate 384 gallons of trash every day during lunch. With the switch to reusable trays and the active recycling of food waste, that number has dropped dramatically. <strong>Over the course of a school year, they have reduced trash by an incredible 69,120 gallons<\/strong>, significantly lowering their environmental footprint and contributing to a cleaner planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Turning Food Waste into Valuable Resources<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The impact doesn\u2019t stop at waste reduction. <strong>The school now collects and recycles almost 14 gallons of food waste each day<\/strong>, which is sent to Black Earth Compost. This organic waste is transformed into nutrient-rich soil, which will eventually be used to grow more food for the school\u2019s garden.
